What we do
Essential oils are some of oldest and most powerful natural medicines known. Different researchers have claimed that Essential oils were used in China or India, while others believe that it was the Egyptians who were the first to discover their healing properties.
Either way it goes back to times before Christ and then during as there are many bible references too, Frankincense, Myrrh, Rosemary, Cinnamon and Spikenard, which are still used widely to this day.
The Egyptians and Babylonians used these oils for fragrances for personal well-being as well as ceremonial use in temples and pyramids.
The Romans diffused oils in their political buildings and temples. They also scented their baths with the oils and used them for massage.
The ancient Arabians studied the chemical properties. They were the pioneers who developed the distillation process.
The most popular oil they extracted was the rose, its value was more than gold and very popular in the Middle East at that time. Kings would negotiate with this expensive oil to buy slaves, gold and land.
The Ebers Papyrus containing over 800 herbs and oils was discovered in 1817 with it dating back to 1500 B.C. King Tutankhamen's tomb was opened in 1922 and over 50 alabaster jars which could hold 350 litres of oil were found.
Unfortunately, tomb robbers had stolen nearly all of the precious oils, but some of the jars still contained remains of their original contents.
